Last night, I picked up the new EA Active. After dinner, I started playing with it. The first thing you do is set up a fitness profile. There isn't very much selection in clothing nor body style of your person after you set up some necessary information. It asks your gender, age, height and weight.
Once I got that all set up, I decided to start on the 30 day challenge. I got to chose between three levels of intensity - high, medium and low. I had decided on low since I all ready had one workout earlier in the day.
I also got to chose between a male or female trainer. I chose the female but I think with my next workout I am going to see how the male trainer is.
I had to assemble the resistance bands. They were easy to put together. Would have been nicer if EA would have spent a few extra dollars and got a better band. I found out that during the workout that I am not too crazy about the bands. I think that I am going to see how the bands that I have at the house will work instead. When you are doing the upper body workouts with the resistance band you are holding the wii remote in your right hand and the nunchuck in your left. I found that the resistance band is a bit awkward to work with especially if you're a short person like me (5 ft tall). There were times during the workout where I did not have enough time to set the band up properly. I also felt like I wasn't getting enough resistance because the band was not set up right. I just didn't feel it when I was doing some of the upper body workout.
The first workout that it had me doing was walking. If I was going too slow it would let me know, otherwise the word perfect would come up on the screen. Then it had me running. The same thing would come up on the screen to let you know how you are doing.
I also got to experience inline skating. Now that one really kicked my a**. You would crouch down as you are supposedly going downhill. You would get to a ramp and jump would appear on the screen and you would have to jump. There was a segment where you would have to crouch and then jump several times in a row. That one really gives you a workout. I think the trainer told me that we need to work on that section.
I also got to do some cardio boxing. That is going to take some practice also.
The workout ended with running and then walking. Hey, I got the hang of that. The trainer kept telling me how good I was. It was funny because all the other characters where passing me on the track.
At the end of the workout, I had learned that I burned about 100 calories. The goal was to burn 88. I also filled in my journal at the end of the workout. Basically going over my eating habits, exercise habits and sleeping habits from the day before. I earned a 96% and another trophy.
Overall, it's a good game. I hate to see what the other intensity levels are like. I believe that I am going to do the 30 day challenge at the low intensity level. EA Active is going to be my second workout during the day. Today I am supposed to be doing tennis, sounds like fun.
The upperbody workout and some lower body workouts are good. They teach you proper form and timing. Although, the time from you do the exercise and your character is different. The trainer tells you when to start the exercise and there is a little dinger when you are to go back to the starting position. The squats have a thermometer thingy to show you how low your squats are. It will let you know if you are too low and also if you are getting up too fast. During any of the upper or lower body workouts if you are doing it incorrectly it will let you know.
I like EA Active a lot better than Wii Fit. As a person that is a bit more advanced in fitness this is definitely going to challenge me. I won't knock Wii Fit, that is a fun game and it does get a body moving. If you are looking for more of a serious workout I would chose EA Active.
thanks for that - will definately keep that in mind while considering this purchase
